ARCH 101

Pre-Jury

For the pre-jury, we were tasked with designing a strategic approach. I chose to follow a central strategy, using linear elements to define and emphasize the central volume of my model. To enhance this concept, I incorporated volumes that gradually decrease in size, moving outward from the center, creating a sense of balance and hierarchy. This approach allowed me to explore the relationship between the core and its surrounding elements. It was also my first experience presenting my work to the jury, which made the process both challenging and exciting.

METU-Site Studies

The photographs I took during our visit to METU were aimed at helping us gain a deeper understanding of the concepts of hinge and threshold, which we studied in the studio. By observing these architectural elements in real-life contexts, I was able to visually explore how they function within spaces. The idea of a hinge, which symbolizes a point of connection between two spaces, and a threshold, representing a boundary or entrance, became clearer as I saw these concepts applied to the buildings and their designs at METU. This experience provided a practical insight into how these elements influence both the function and aesthetic of architectural spaces.
